Exclude category from a discount

Excluding products from a shop-wide discount is an incredibly useful feature, especially if you have products that are vastly more expensive than other, or products with a smaller profit margin than others.

Go ahead and enter the NameCodeDiscount Type, and a Value for this discount. In this example we are running a Percentage based discount. Decide if you want to limit the usage amount or the date range. You can limit both, and your promotion will end whenever either one of the limits is hit, whichever comes first.

Make sure that Applies to all products is unchecked.

In the Exclude section set the Products must match button to All Rules and then click on Add Rule. Select Category from the Products matching dropdown then find the category you are looking for in the text box. You can exclude more than one category at a time if you want, but if you do this make sure you set the Product must match button to Any Rules

Set the Visibility of this discount to whatever you need. If you set the Start date to be sometime in the future then you can leave this set to inactive as the discount will automatically activate when the Start date is hit.

Go ahead and set the date ranges here. It’s generally ok to have no end date on this type of discount if you have already set a usage limit, however if there is no usage limit then we suggest having an End date.
