This guide will show one way of migrating your emails from an old email account into your new Shopblocks email inbox.
Before you start
In order to carry out the migration you will need the following pieces of information:
- Email Address - your email, e.g. email@example.com
- Old Password - the password to access your old email account
- Old Incoming Server Address (e.g. imap.example.com)
- Old Outgoing Server Address (e.g. smtp.example.com)
Ask your old email provider for these details or contact Shopblocks Support if you're not sure.
Preparing for the migration
This guide uses Thunderbird - a free email program to perform the migration. It may be possible to carry out the migration using another email program, such as Microsoft Outlook, but we have used Thunderbird because it is free and works on Windows, Mac and Linux devices.
To download Thunderbird visit: https://www.thunderbird.net/en-GB/
Thunderbird makes it possible to add both your old and new email accounts and transfer email data between them.
Migrate your email
Open Thunderbird - if you see a sign in pop-up, you can skip this step and choose the standard setup. You will also be given this prompt - You can click 'Skip Integration'.
Click the menu icon in the top right of the screen, located next to the search bar and then click Account Settings from the dropdown menu.
Click on the bottom left button labelled Account Actions.
Click Add Mail Account and proceed with the workflow.
Your Name: Enter your name. To make it easier to define each account I would recommend prefixing the name. For example "Old Email Account".
Email Address: Enter your email address
Password: the password for your old mail account
Do not click Continue and select “Configure Manually”.
You will now have some more settings revealed to you, the only areas you have to change are the servers. These can be found in your current email clients settings. They follow the format of
imap.(hostname).com and smtp.(hostname).com
For example imap.mrsitemail.com or imap.gmail.com
In the Incoming Column -
Change the Server to: imap.(hostname).com
In the Outgoing Column -
Change the Server to: smtp.(hostname).com
Click Re-test and then click Done.
After clicking Done you will receive a warning message, you can ignore this and proceed.
You will now be able to view your inbox for that email address, please repeat these steps for any other emails you wish to transfer.
Once you have done this, you will want to add your new mailboxes.
Go back to Account Actions and repeat the previous steps to add a new mail account, but this time
when configuring manually change the server to: mail.hostedemail.com for both the Incoming and Outgoing Columns.
The password will be 'shopblocksemail'. Please change this to something memorable after you have logged in for the first time.
Once you have both emails added to Thunderbird (old email account &
Shopblocks Mail) we can begin transferring any emails you want into your new Mailbox.
Here are the steps to transferring the emails:
Go to settings/preferences and make sure 'Automatically mark messages as read' is unticked.
Click on the inbox with old emails that we created earlier.
Select all emails you want to be transferred over to your new
mailbox, you can also press Ctrl+A (Cmd+A on MacOS) to select all emails.
Right click and select "Copy to" and left click on the new inbox.
You have now successfully migrated all of your selected emails over to your new mailbox, this can be accessed through Thunderbird or mail.hostedemail.com using the same login credentials.
