How to Add and Manage Pages on your site

How to add a page

To add a page to your website, first head to Content:

Then click on View pages in the Pages section.

When in the pages area you will see a list of existing pages on your site. To add a new page, click on + Add Page in the top right corner.

The next step is to give the page a name, which you can do in the Name field.

Below the name field you will see the Content area where you can enter your content. If you want to you can edit how the text looks inside this field. You don’t have to worry about setting any colours here since all that is covered by your BlockLab settings.

On the right hand side you can set the Visibility for this page. Publishing will make it a live page (albeit not linked anywhere on your site yet). Leaving it as unpublished will save the page in a draft state. Selecting the Customers only box will make the page visible only to visitors and customers logged into your website.

Use the Image Library button to set a Featured Image if needed. Click here for more information on using the Image Library.

To save your changes and save the page, click Save in the top right.

How to edit a page

There are a number of different ways of editing your page - from tweaking the page title and description for SEO purposes, to opening a page in BlockLab and changing its individual design.

Editing content on a page

The first step in editing a page is to navigate to the pages section and slect the page you wish to edit. You will find this via Content > Pages > then selecting the page you wish to edit from the pages index page:

If your content is in the Content field on the page edit screen, then simply use the text editor to amend or add to your content, and then press Save in the top right.

Editing SEO information

The Search Engine Listing section is at the very bottom of the page edit screen. This section will automatically fill in with your page's name and a snippet of any content you may have added. We always recommend reviewing and editing this section to optimise your page title and description for the search term the page is targeting. You can see how your changes will look with the search engine preview area:

Editing page URLs

In the Search Engine Listing area, there is a section to change the URL of the page. Always ensure this is a string with no spaces. For best results leave it the same as your page name.

Editing a page design in BlockLab

On the right hand side of the product edit screen, you will see a green button inviting you to Open this page in Blocklab. Click this and it will take you through to the BlockLab design for the page, allowing you to use BlockLab to customise the page.

You can also use the design copying tool to apply the BlockLab design of another page. Please note this will copy across the other page's content entirely, and you will have to then open the new page design in BlockLab and make the necessary adjustments to make the content on the page unique.

If you are starting a design from scratch, the default layout will show your Page Name and Featured Image blocks, and nothing else. You can delete these or build around them. When you are happy with it, simply click Publish in the top right corner to push live your design.

Click here or more information on our design tool BlockLab.

Copying an existing page

To copy an existing page, click Copy in the top right of the page you wish to copy. The page will refresh and you will now be looking at the new page you are working on. It is highly recommended to look at and edit the Search Engine Listing and URL to ensure they are optimised and correct for the new page that you are creating.

How to delete a page

Before you delete anything keep in mind that this action is not reversible. Anything that is not saved will be lost. When in doubt, set the page as unpublished just to be safe.

Click on the page you want to delete. Please note you cannot delete protected pages.

On the right hand side, under the Image Library button, click Delete Page. Protected pages will not show a delete button.

You page has now been deleted.

How to add a page to a menu

What are protected pages?

On the pages index screen you will notice that some pages have a padlock icon next to them. This means they are a protected system page and cannot be deleted.

When you click on one of these pages to edit them you will note the Visibility section also indicates the page's protected status:

You can add content to these pages in the Content area provided, but it it will only appear in the fixed position available for content in that page's pre-set design.

Some of the default pages in Shopblocks are locked and cannot be deleted. Also, some fields are not editable.

The URL of locked pages is not editable. Because of this we advise that you do not change the name of locked pages as the URL reflects the name of the page.
